Warsaw is number 1 in The Times’ city break ranking for 2026
Warsaw has been ranked No. 1 in the “16 of the Best City Breaks in Europe in 2026” list prepared by the travel editors of The Times and The Sunday Times. The ranking highlights the most exciting European destinations for short trips in the coming year.
According to the editors, the Polish capital stands out thanks to its unique atmosphere, rich history and rapidly developing culinary scene. The article highlights the charm of Warsaw’s Old Town, rebuilt after World War II, with its winding streets, colourful market square and the iconic statue of the Warsaw Mermaid.
The editors also recommend visiting new cultural institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, as well as places that offer a different perspective on the city’s past, including the Museum of Life under Communism.
Warsaw’s dynamic food scene is another reason to visit. The article points to restaurants recognised by the Michelin Guide, including NUTA, while also encouraging visitors to experience traditional Polish cuisine in classic milk bars.
To round off the day, the authors suggest a walk along the Vistula River, especially around the lively Vistula Boulevards, one of the most popular meeting places for locals and visitors alike.
This is another major international recognition for Warsaw. Earlier this year, the city also ranked second in the “52 Places to Go in 2026” list published by The New York Times.
