Share |

The Year 2010 with a large spectrum of events – many of which are international, is a very special year for Warsaw. Warsaw Convention Bureau, as the representative of Warsaw City Hall and a body responsible for attracting such events to Warsaw, is providing assistance and advice to their organizers.

This year is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Fryderyk Chopin. It is an event on a global scale which goes way beyond the borders of Poland. However, Warsaw – the home town of the composer, in which he spent half of his life, will be the world's capital city of the celebrations. The anniversary will be accompanied by numerous events ranging from festivals and exhibitions to diverse conferences. Not only large concert halls but also city parks, squares and even the underground will reverberate with the music of Chopin and his famous mazurkas and polonaises. Since the inauguration of the celebration, which took place at the beginning of January 2010, tens of institutions and authorities have been involved in the organization of Chopin Year events.

III International Congress Chopin 1810-2010 Ideas – Interpretations – Influences, organized by The Fryderyk Chopin Institute under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (25th February – 1st March) can serve as an exemplary project being carried out in Warsaw.

Events coming in 2010 will be associated with Warsaw bidding for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2016. The purpose of the events is the integration of artistic circles to showcase what Polish culture has to offer to the rest of Europe. Warsaw, as a city of creative contrasts with a fresh doze of energy and experiments in the field of independent art, which supplements the traditions of respected cultural institutions, will surely inspire artists in many projects. They will certainly diversify the city’s cultural offer for many years ahead.

The Year 2010 will not only be the year of culture, but also the year of sport with many great sport events held in Poland’s capital city. This year Warsaw is a host of the V Special Olympics European Summer Games, for the organization of which Poland competed with Portugal, Spain and Belgium, just to name the few. The Olympics will be held from 18th - 24th September 2010, with national teams from 58 countries from Europe and Eurasia (over thousand sportsmen with their families and over thousand volunteers, judges and doctors). During the Olympics Warsaw will receive thousands of guests for whom an attractive and diversified accompanying programme has been prepared.

It is also an important year for the city due to Warsaw being the host of UEFA EURO2012. Warsaw’s famed Congress Hall will host the group qualifications draw for the Euro 2012 on 7 February 2010. The ceremony will be attended by UEFA authorities, important medias and representatives of all of the football federations whose teams will play in the qualifications. Fifty-one national teams will take part in the qualification games. 2010 is also the year of intensive infrastructure investments including the construction of the National Football Stadium, modernization of hotels, conference venues and roads.

In September 2010 is the 30th anniversary of the inclusion of Warsaw's Old Town in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1980. The event will be celebrated with the international conservator's conference - „Colours of historic elevations from the Middle Ages to the present”, which will be held from 22nd -24th September 2010. The conference will be devoted to colours and the antique polychrome of architecture. It will be attended by both domestic and international guests.

The 2010 will be for The Warsaw Tourist Office and Warsaw Convention Bureau a challenge and possibility to show ability of city, their strenghts and diversity. We hope, that this year show how interesting and hospitality is Warsaw City.
