First prize for the film promoting Warsaw

The 9th international film competition “The Golden City Gate 2010” took place during ITB Berlin tourism fair this year. It is a very prestigious ceremony, where best of the best from the tourism sector are awarded every year. This special event offers cities, communities, economic regions, hotels, airports, shipping companies and the travel industry an effective tool of communication work to present their effects to the international public.

This year the Diamond Award went to Warsaw, which won the first prize for a film directed by Agnieszka Holland and Magdalena Łazarkiewicz. The film promotes Warsaw as a candidate for the European Capital of Culture 2016.

The awarded film, which premiere took place in Warsaw on 30th of September is illustrated with the music of Frederic Chopin played by a young pianist Stanisław Drzewiecki. Other well known personages connected with polish culture and the city of Warsaw also performed in the film, among them: Zbigniew Hołdys (musician), Krystyna Janda (actress), Maria Peszek (singer), Danuta Szaflarska (actress) and Andrzej Wajda (director).

Deputy Director of Warsaw Tourist Office -Anna Witkowska received the award on behalf of the City of Warsaw.
