With the support of Warsaw Convention Bureau, Warsaw has filed in an offer to organise the European College of Sport Science congress. It is the largest congress on sport in Europe and second largest in the World. ECSS attracts over 2 500 professionals dealing with various aspects of physical activity to the host country. Warsaw is applying to be the host of ECSS in 2020 or 2021.
The key factors for the organisers was to gain the strong support of local partners from the scientific circles. As a part of its statutory activities, Warsaw CvB has gained of, among others, the Ministery of Sport and Tourism, the Sport and Recreation Office of the city of Warsaw, the Deputy Mayor of the City of Warsaw, Sports Institute, Polish Olympic Committee, Józef Pi³sudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw and Warsaw School of Tourism and Hospitality Management. The city has declared free-of-charge use of the Palace of Culture and Science for the duration of the event, as well as complimentary public transport tickets for all conference participants.
ECSS has selected Mazurkas as the local PCO, an agency that has prepared a complex bid book for Warsaw. They have substantiated their decision with the statement that Mazurkas was the only company applying that is the member of ICCA. Within three weeks we should be informed whether Warsaw will be accepted to the next stage of negotiations. Three destinations selected by the ECSS board will present their offer during the June ECSS congress in Vienna. We keep our fingers crossed for Warsaw!
